The first sketch to be made on this page (which has been turned to the right) is the second sketch down, and shows a view along the River Tweed near Ashestiel looking west from the road towards Yair. There are two similar views on folios 85 and 86 (D26082, D26084; CCLXVII 85, 88). For further information on Turner’s sketches of Ashestiel see folio 88 (D26088; CCLXVII 90).
Turner then used this page again two days later when he visited Newark Castle, turning the page to the left this time and drawing at the top a view of the castle from banks of the Yarrow Water to the north. See folio 77 (D26066; CCLXVII 79) for more information about Tuner’s visit to Newark.
Finally, the sketchbook was taken up again to make two small and slight sketches of boats at a harbour at the outer edge of the page. The sketch may be inscribed ‘Dunbar Harbour’.
