This leaf is detached from the sketchbook and mounted separately.
As Finberg recognised, this composition in monochrome wash has some similarities to designs made for Turner’s series of landscape compositions, the Liber Studiorum, and indeed there is a list of several subjects for it inside the back cover of the original sketchbook (D40721). However, there may be no real connection and the unidentified subject was not developed further, or engraved.
