With the page turned vertically, Turner inscribed the following in pencil working down from the outer edge, presumably recording banknote numbers as was his custom:

There is also a faint, almost childlike elevation of a four-square house with a central door and four windows, and a corresponding plan showing a room on either side a narrow entrance hall with stairs. Apparently working in from the back of the sketchbook, this is the first of a series of sketches relating to Sandycombe Lodge, Turner’s self-designed Twickenham house (see the Introduction to the sketchbook), occupying most of the pages as far as folio 73 verso (D08057). It bears no resemblance to house as built.
