This view of Stirling Castle was probably made from the Ladies’ Rock to the south. It is similar to the view opposite in the sketchbook on folio 8 verso (D26451) which shows the castle buildings from slightly closer, and to an outline of the castle on the reverse of this page (folio 9 verso; D26453). This sketch pays particular attention to the Castle Rock, although the buildings are also drawn carefully with attention to details such as the tracery in the four arched windows of the central block.
