David Wallace-Hadrill and Janet Carolan have identified the two sketches on this page as views from Inversnaid on the east coast of Loch Lomond.1 The top sketch looks south-west across the loch to the ‘Arrochar Alps’. Most prominent among the mountains is Cruach-Tairbeirt just to the north of Tarbet at the centre-right of the sketch. Below is a view north-west towards Ben Vane and Ben Vorlich.
There are two further sketches of the view from Inversnaid on folio 12 verso of this sketchbook (D26642), and Turner made sketches of Inversnaid in the Stirling and the West sketchbook (Tate D26617; Turner Bequest CCLXX 92).
