This sketch is of the same view of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull that Turner made on folio 1 verso (D26749). It was probably made from Argyll Terrace which runs along a hillside above Main Street and Tobermory Bay. In fact the shape of the lane at the right of the sketch suggests that Turner was standing at the corner of Argyll Terrace and Middle Brae, a road that runs down the hill (indicated by diagonal shading) towards Main Street. A house still stands on the hill where Turner has drawn two buildings at the centre of the sketch. At the left of the sketch is the south side of Tobermory Bay with several boats (indicated by their masts alone) tied up at the pier.
