Ardtornish Castle is seen here from the Sound of Mull to the south. This sketch was made as Turner steamed down the Sound on his return to Oban after visiting the isles of Skye and Staffa. It is one of nine pages of studies of the castle: see folio 51 (D26480) for references and details. The view of the castle on folio 53 (D26844) is very similar, though it is drawn in more detail.
