Drawn in simplified outline, this sketch was made from the promontory at the south-east of the island of Kerrera, and looks north towards the ruin of Glyen Castle, which sits on a craggy headland a few hundred metres away. The sketch is one of eleven views of the castle that Turner made from around this point (folios 68–73; D26874–D26884), and one of twenty-five in total (folios 63 verso–75 verso; D26865–D26889). The sketch on folio 71 (D26880) was made from just to the left of the present view, and Turner made a sketch from the other side of the two conical-shaped rocks in the foreground on folio 70 (D26878).
