These loose sketches, David Wallace-Hadrill and Janet Carolan suggest, are of the Cuillin range of mountains on Skye,1 presumably seen from Arisaig or Loch nan Ceall. The sketches are too rough to make it possible to match them to the profiles of particular mountains, but the general shape and character of the sketches at the top of the page is similar to other sketches of the Cuillins in this book (e.g. folios 5 and 6; D26963, D26964). The more rounded profiles of the mountains at the centre of the page may be those of South Mora to the east of Arisaig.
Turner landed at Arisaig on his way to Skye (see the introduction to this sketchbook for details).
