Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Finberg has read Turner’s inscription on this page as either ‘Loch End’ or ‘Loch Eil’. If it says Loch End then it could be a reference to several lochs, although the most likely would be Loch Lochy, of which there are possible sketches on folios 6–7 (D26972–D26974). If it is Loch Eil then these three sketches may look west towards Beinn an t-Sneachda. Turner would have been able to make this view as his boat briefly entered Loch Eil on its approach to Corpach from Loch Linnhe. Sketches on folios 8 verso and 9 verso (D26977, D26979) may also be inscribed ‘Loch Eil’, though these identifications remain uncertain.
There is a small tear at the bottom left of the page (see folio 7; D26974).
