For Egremont Castle and views in this sketchbook see Introduction. One, folio 27 (D07568) is inscribed ‘Eg’[remont]. Judging by the route sketched inside the front cover (D07537) Turner approached Egremont via Cleator, along the River Ehen, and his sketches and drawings of the castle here and formerly in the Petworth sketchbook are taken from the river. This one includes the former water mill, seen also on folio 30 (D07571).
