Inscribed ‘St Mary Lake’ at the top of this page, here are two sketches of St Mary’s Loch in Selkirkshire. The sketch at the bottom of the page is very similar to the view on folio 24 verso (D26141), which is likely to depict the outflow of the Megget Water at Cappercleuch at the northern end of the loch, as seen from the road to the north below Capper Law. For a list of the hills across the water in the distance, see the entry for folio 24 (D26140), where the context of Turner’s visit to the area is discussed.
A different view of the loch is drawn at the top of the page. This may be a view looking past Cappercleuch to the southern end of the loch. There are further views of St Mary’s Loch on folios 24–28 (D26140–D26148).
