While this rather slight sketch of Rhymer’s Glen on the Abbotsford estate contains no distinguishing features, the wooded bank of trees and the stream in the foreground are common to the other views of the glen, including the sketch opposite on folio 50 verso (D26193), which is the one that comes closest to Turner’s watercolour vignette of the subject: Rhymer’s Glen, Abbotsford, circa 1834 (National Gallery of Scotland).1 See folio 50 verso for more information on Turner’s visit to the glen and his other sketches of the area.
There are light brown stains at the top centre and bottom centre of the page.
