Looking south across the Gala Water with the northern bank in the foreground, this sketch depicts Gala Hill to the south of the Scottish Border town of Galashiels. The sun above the hill indicates that it is midday or early afternoon. There is another sketch of the hill opposite in the sketchbook on folio 58 verso (D26209).
There is an oval brown stain in the top left corner of this page and a pale brown mark across the right of the page.
