David Wallace-Hadrill and Janet Carolan identified these sketches as Doune Castle as seen from the north-east.1 The castle is shown in outline within the setting of Ardoch Burn at the top of the page, while there is a much more detailed sketch from closer-to at the bottom of the page. The other two sketches at the centre of the page depict two views of the Mill of Doune, which stood on the bank of Ardoch Burn to the north-east of the castle.2 The first sketch, to the bottom right of the distant view of Doune, may be from the north while the sketch beneath shows the grain mill from the south-west, identifiable by the presence of a water wheel. The mill is also depicted on folio 61 (D26374). For further information and a full list of Turner’s sketches of the castle, see folio 52 verso (D26358).
