Doune Castle is seen here in a careful and accurate drawing from the south-east. In this view Turner has paid attention to the castle’s brickwork as well as the windows, gun loops, gables and turrets. To the left of the castle is the River Teith with a mountain peak, probably Ben Vorlich, in the distance above it.
Turner studied the castle from all direction, see folio 52 verso (D26358) for further details.
