Made from the slopes a little to the south-west of St Anthony’s Chapel the sketch across this page and folio 83 (D26418) provides a panoramic view to the west and north across Edinburgh. The ruins of St Anthony’s Chapel appear on this page as a small square on the edge of a rocky slope with a path beneath (see also folio 86; D26424). The eastern outskirts of the city can be seen beyond with the Firth of Forth in the distance. More of the city can be seen on the other half of this sketch, including Calton Hill, North Bridge and the spires of some of the city’s churches.
