Turner’s inscription, comprising a few words on one line, is all but illegible. It may relate to the draft of poetry on folio 18 verso opposite (D08396). The main drawing is of an unidentified harbour with tall ships’ masts indicated beyond the buildings on the left. Encroaching at right angles at the top left is a ship and shoreline continuing from the view of Bideford squeezed into the space left below the poetry opposite.
