This view bears a generic resemblance to one in the contemporary Ivy Bridge to Penzance sketchbook (Tate D08899; Turner Bequest CXXV 23a) which may show the meandering Truro River from Malpas, which Turner probably passed through on his way south-west towards Falmouth (see under folio 7 verso; D08375) by way of Grampound (see folio 128 verso; D08606; CXXIII 125a); the river may alternatively be the Fal. There are inscriptions which appear to refer to St Michael Penkivel and Tregothnan, along the east bank of the Truro, on a river view on folio 109 recto (D08570; CXXIII 106).
