The view is to the north-east from the coast between Cawsand and Penlee Point, looking across Plymouth Sound. What appears to be the Citadel is just visible as a thin rectangle near the centre, beyond the steep profile of Mount Edgcumbe, with the tower at Mount Batten is a little to the right. The view to the south-east on folio 11 recto (D08875; CXXV 10) was made from the same spot or nearby.
This is one of a series of sketches of Plymouth and nearby districts, running from folio 3 recto (D08866; CXXV 2) to folio 14 recto (D08880; CXXV 13); see the entry for the first of these for other Plymouth views.
Verso:
Blank, save for slight offsetting from the drawing on folio 11 recto opposite (D08875).
