This is a brief continuation to the right of the composition on the previous double-page spread, folios 12 verso–13 recto (D08878, D08879; CXXV 11a–12), extending the panorama by some 35 mm at the right-hand edge of the page; for details of the viewpoint see under folio 13 recto. Finberg notes that the triple-page sketch is the basis of the watercolour Plymouth, with Mount Batten of about 1816 (Victoria and Albert Museum, London),1 engraved in 1817 for the Picturesque Views on the Southern Coast of England2 (see the concordance of the series in the 1811 tour introduction). In fact, continuation on the present page was not incorporated into the finished composition.
This is the last of a sequence of sketches of Plymouth and nearby districts, running from folio 3 recto (D08866; CXXV 2) onwards; see the entry for that page for other Plymouth views.
