The distant coast near Mousehole on the south-western side of Mount’s Bay is seen above the rocks in the foreground, in a slight continuation of the main view of the mount on folio 33 recto opposite (D08912; CXXV 32). Eric Shanes has noted the latter page alone as a source for the watercolour St Michael’s Mount, Cornwall of about 1812 (private collection),1 engraved in 1814 for the Picturesque Views on the Southern Coast of England2 (see the concordance of the series in the 1811 tour introduction). The rocks in the foreground of the watercolour feature in the corresponding part of the sketch on the present page. There is a similar view on folios 33 verso–34 recto (D08913, D08914; CXXV 32a–33).
