This page represents part of a landscape sketch depicting a view of the Tomb of the Plautius family (or Tomb of the Plautii), a cylindrical first-century funerary monument of Travertine stone, which stands on the Via Valeria, approximately two miles west of Tivoli. The composition continues on the opposite sheet of the double-page spread, see folio 31 (D14982), but this side of the drawing shows the Ponte Lucano, the bridge crossing the River Aniene adjacent to the tomb. Visible in the distance is Tivoli, nestled amongst the Sabine Hills in the background. The view, which is taken from the western bank of the river, is repeated in several other sketches, see folio 27 verso (D14975), but here includes greater focus on details such as the masonry of the bridge.
