The execution of this drawing is exceptionally perfunctory and it is just possibly the unaided work of a pupil, albeit very much in Turner’s manner, and no doubt done under his close supervision. In all respects it is technically close to his style, though lacking any of his customary refinement of line or form. However, the number inscribed on the verso is apparently in his hand, and seems to place the sheet in the series of his own copy-drawings, with which it is accordingly catalogued here, though with the foregoing provisos.
Technical notes:
The sheet is irregular, being narrower at the bottom than the top, with the right-hand edge consequently sloping.

Blank; inscribed by Turner in brush and grey wash ‘57’; the sheet stained and dirty; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
