This is a slight and unfinished study which is stylistically close to, and perhaps connected with Turner’s work on, the distant view of Rochester (Tate D00158; Turner Bequest XV B) for a watercolour to be engraved.

The sheet has been folded laterally approximately 20 mm from the top edge.

Blank, dirt-stained; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
