Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
The inscription is now very faint and almost illegible; the ‘27’ noted by Finberg is not evident. However, his wording ‘label on back’ usually indicates a paper label comprising a number and title pasted onto a sketchbook’s spine, perhaps in this instance duplicating the word inscribed here but since lost.
