As Ian Warrell has noted, there is no early exhibition record for this sheet, but it is evident from the discolouration of the paper that it was exposed to light for a considerable period.

Inscribed by John Ruskin in red ink ‘735’, and by another hand in pencil ‘57’; stamped in brown ink with Turner Bequest monogram.
