Together with Tate D00391 and D00392 (Turner Bequest XXIII Q, R), this demonstrates Turner’s debt to P.J. de Loutherbourg (1740–1812) at this period. The group of dog and running man occurs on a related sheet of studies (Tate D00398; Turner Bequest XXIII X).
