The position on the sheet of this fragmentary study suggests that Turner may have intended to incorporate it into a larger composition. Unfinished as it is, however, it is in effect a study of reflections in water. It is grouped with the drawings of 1795 for convenience but may date from a year earlier.
There are colour trials along the lower edge.
