Joseph Mallord William Turner 1775–1851
White wove paper, 312 x 233 mm
Inscribed in an early hand in pencil ‘Savoy Chaple’ bottom centre
This sheet, roughly cut from an album, has become detached from the ‘Monro School’ view of the ruins of the Savoy Chapel formerly mounted on it (Tate
D36523; Turner Bequest CCCLXXV 2). With ruled pencil lines to frame the composition, it corresponds with the type of mount used in the two Monro albums at Tate (Turner Bequest CCCLXXIII, CCCLXXIV).
Blank; inscribed in pencil ‘114’ top left, ‘CCCLXXV – 2 |
D36523’ bottom centre and ‘(
D40488)’ bottom right.
