Turner’s inscription suggests that these two sketches depict mountains near the village of Les Échelles in Savoy. Similar drawings can be found on folios 31–32 (D16699–D16701; Turner Bequest CXCII 30–31), while for further views relating to Les Échelles see the Paris, France, Savoy 2 sketchbook (for example Tate D14106; Turner Bequest CLXXIII 70).
