Finberg tentatively identified this sketch as a view of the Valley of the Dora on the Italian side of the Alps after the Mont Cenis pass.1 It is not clear, however, how he arrived at this identification and the drawing is more likely to represent a view in Savoy on the road to Chambéry or Lanslebourg. The scene is rather rough and schematic although the profile of the mountains has been carefully outlined.
