The inscriptions at the top left are presumably the bookseller’s prices in shillings and indicate a reduction from four to three, no doubt enhancing the book’s attraction for the artist. On the inside back cover (D40842) is the higher price of ‘4/6’.
Finberg did not remark the presence of pencil work at the right edge of the sheet, representing the left-hand continuation of a drawing of a figure at the entrance to Dow Cave on folio 1 opposite (D11442) as observed by the present writer.
