Turner here records the view of St Agatha’s Abbey, Easby, from the west, returning towards Richmond. The subject is continued to the left in a few pencil marks on folio 21 verso opposite (D40841). For the abbey see folio 21 recto (D11474).
Turner sketched similar views in the Yorkshire 2 and Yorkshire 5 sketchbooks (Tate D11225–D11226; Turner Bequest CXLV 112a–113, and Tate D11546; Turner Bequest CXLVIII 14a), which accompanied him on the same tour.
