This is the left part of a double-page spread continued to the right on folio 12 recto (D11579; Turner Bequest CXLVIII 33, now bound opposite), recording the view north from Conishead Park with Coniston Old Man in the distance to the left, the Fairfield group in the centre distance and the High Street group to the right. At the far right is the Folly near Conishead Priory. Turner sketched the Priory from different viewpoints in two sketches in the Yorkshire 2 sketchbook (Tate D11174, D11173; Turner Bequest CXLV 86, 85a). The present writer has dated these sketches to Tuesday 6 August 1816.
