This is the left half of a double-page spread continued to the right on folio 62 verso (D10983), opposite, recording Hornby Castle from the carriage drive to the east. Turner sketched the same aspect in greater detail in this sketchbook, folios 67 verso–68 (D10990–D10991), and the south and south-west aspects in three sketches in the Yorkshire 3 sketchbook (Tate D11413–D11418; Turner Bequest CXLVI 27a–30). The sketch is continued to the right at the top of the page.
