This is the left half of a double-page spread continued to the right on folio 67 verso (D10990), opposite, recording Hornby Castle from the east and supplying greater detail for the composition sketched from a greater distance in folios 62 verso–63 of the sketchbook (D10983–D10984). Turner sketched the south and south-west aspects in the Yorkshire 3 sketchbook (Tate D11413–D11418; Turner Bequest CXLVI 27a–30).
