The inside front cover has five thumbnail sketches in successive registers. From top to bottom these depict the shore of Lake Geneva, perhaps at Vevey, and three successive stages of a continuous panorama of the head of the lake from off Vevey, all taken during a steamer trip, and a scene drawn later while crossing the Col du Bonhomme between Chamonix and Courmayeur.
