See Introduction to the sketchbook for the presence of a small run of sketches at Stratford-upon-Avon dating from 1833. Four appear here:
i. (main sketch, drawn inverted in relation to the main numbered sequence of subjects in the book) Shakespeare’s birthplace, inscribed ‘Windo[w]’, ‘W’ and ‘B’. Dr Bernard Richards of Brasenose College, Oxford has kindly pointed out that the house, now much altered, was formerly a butcher’s shop although Turner’sinitial ‘B’ presumably relates to the birthplace.
ii. (right, drawn with page upright) The town and Holy Trinity Church, continued to right in (iii) below.
iii. (along gutter, drawn with page upright) Bridges in the town.
iv. (below house, drawn with the page upright) Detail of (iii), showing the Guild Chapel tower.
