This page contains three sketches:
i. (bottom) Perhaps the left part of a four-part panorama, continued from D29253; Turner Bequest CCXCIV 23a recording the vista of mountains from above Chambéry, south of the château and old town, here panning left to take in the mountains to the west of the city.
ii. (top) The right part of the same four-part panorama, this time panning right across the mountains from the Croix du Nivolet.
iii. (centre, squeezed in between the two inscriptions) The continuation of (ii) to the right, to complete the panorama to the south-west towards the valley of the ‘Iser’ (Isère).
Maurice Guillaud1 misread Turner’s inscription as ‘Bare Ecrin’, drawing the mistaken inference that Turner must have passed through the area of Briançon on this tour.
