This page contains two sketches:
i. (above) From the Mont Cenis road above Susa, looking along the Susa valley towards the Sacra di San Michele near Sant’Ambrogio at the foot of the valley; inscribed in the distance ‘St Michael’ and in the mid-distance ‘Mont Vanche [?]’. Turner drew the same sketch from a lower viewpoint in sketch (ii) on the facing page of the sketchbook (D29301; Turner Bequest CCXCIV 48a), and the same subject from higher up in the following sketch.
ii. (below, inverted in relation to (i) From the Mont Cenis road above Susa, looking along the Susa valley towards the Sacra di San Michele near Sant’Ambrogio, from a higher viewpoint than sketch (i).
