The Château and old town of Chambéry are seen here from the east, from the road to Les Charmettes, near the foot of the road which overlooks the Carré Curial, lower right. This is the most detailed treatment of the château in a series of sketches from similar viewpoints to the south-east, occurring in this sketchbook. A watercolour of Chambéry (on the London art market in 1996)1 shows the same view but not exactly as rendered in any of the sketches.
