Accepted by the nation as part of the Turner Bequest 1856
Ian Warrell has suggested that the sketch at the top of the page with figures in the foreground and a distant tower may be copied from or inspired by a painting that Turner saw in the Louvre, though no picture has been identified. Beneath the sketch is the inscription ‘Aemond P.’ (or perhaps ‘Germond P.’). The second sketch is of sculptures of running men on a plinth with a large stone seat surrounded by trees that Warrell has suggested may be in the Tuileries Garden. Finally at the bottom of the page is view towards the distant dome of Les Invalides (far left) with terraces in the foreground, presumably taken from the Tuileries Garden.1
