This drawing is one of three (including Tate D12122, D40074; Turner Bequest CLIV Xa, Xc) on the front and back of a single sheet of paper, folded in half. In the Inventory Finberg listed each as a separate item, and each individual component drawing has been stamped with its own Turner Bequest number; consequently, each also has its own Tate accession number and is treated separately in this catalogue. For clarity, the present drawing is the right-hand drawing of the recto and D12122 (CLIV Xa) is the left half. D40074 (CLIV Xc), forms the verso.
The present sketch is a very quick note of the view of two figures, almost certainly companions from Farnley Hall, standing on the top of crags. The sketch on the verso (D40074) appears to show the same site, there recognisable as Caley Crags on Otley Chevin, from a viewpoint slightly left and further away.
