In this sketch Turner records the view from the old road from Scarborough to Malton near Seamer, looking north-east at the left towards Oliver’s Mount, and east at the centre and right towards Cayton Bay. A contiguous sketch in Finberg page numbering (D11931; Turner Bequest CL 14; separated in the present order of contents) records the view from nearer to Scarborough and was possibly made in sequence with the present sketch and another in the same sketchbook
(D11940; Turner Bequest CL 21).
