The Cranmere Pool is at the head of the West Okement River, high in the centre of the northern half of Dartmoor, midway across country between Okehampton (see folio 43 recto onwards; D09526), Princetown, Chagford and Lydford (see folio 28 recto; D09510), to the north, south, east and west respectively. It remains very isolated, with no major roads within about five miles. The sources of the Taw, Tavy and East Dart rivers are nearby.
For other definite or likely Dartmoor views, see under folio 8 recto (D09489).
