Finberg’s title ‘Bridge with distant “Farm House.”’,1 serving for this page and folio 92 recto opposite (D09581), appears to be a misprint, as an inscription relating to a farm does not appear on this page, but rather on D09581, which is an independent sketch, albeit possibly with some distant features in common with the present drawing. There is a cliff-like escarpment in the distance on the left beyond the wooded valley and bridge, and square church towers on the horizon at both the far left and the right. The sketch on the recto (D09579) may show a different aspect of the same scene, which is presently unidentified, but probably in north Devon from its context in the sketchbook.
