Turner’s inscription here was adopted by Finberg as the title of the sketchbook (see the Introduction).
Technical notes:
The outer third of the cover has been replaced with a slightly rougher and paler piece of napped leather, to fit the corresponding part of the original which seems to have been damaged, perhaps in the 1928 Tate flood, and blind-tooled to match the surviving original portion which Turner inscribed.
