Saltash is seen on the skyline north up the Hamoaze, as in similar sketches on folios 23 recto and 26 recto (D09695 and D09698, under the second of which other views are mentioned). There is a prominent, black-hatted figure, perhaps a Plymouth sketching companion of Turner’s, seated among the bushes in the foreground. There is another such figure on folio 29 recto (D09703).
