As set out under folio 7 verso (D12134), there are nearly thirty pages of cloud studies in this sketchbook, some, as here, being annotated with colours and other observations. The present sketch, inverted relative to the foliation, only occupies the right-hand half of the page, but it forms part of the double-page drawing across folios 71 verso and 72 (D12225, D12226; CLIV a 70a, 71), as half of folio 71 was evidently missing before Turner began the sketch and continues straight across the torn edge onto this page.
